Martin Odegaard has missed Arsenal’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea due to a minor injury.

Odegaard was brought on as a substitute in the second half of Arsenal’s 4-0 win away to Leeds United on Saturday but Mikel Arteta has revealed that his captain suffered a ‘niggle’ during the match.

Arsenal are at home to Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday and Arteta says the Norway international will undergo further tests this week.

When asked about Odegaard’s injury before kick-off against Chelsea, Arteta said: ‘He felt a niggle during the Leeds game.

‘We tried yesterday but he wasn’t comfortable. So let’s see if he’s available for the weekend.’

Arsenal vs Chelsea team news

Arsenal: Arrizabalaga, Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie, Rice, Zubimendi, Eze, Madueke, Martinelli, Gyokeres.
Subs: Raya, Mosquera, White, Jesus, Norgaard, Trossard, Havertz, Calafiori, Lewis-Skelly
Chelsea: Sanchez, Gusto, Fofana, Chalobah, Hato, Cucurella, Caicedo, Andrey Santos, Enzo, Delap, Joao Pedro.
Subs: Sharman-Lowe, Acheampong, Badiashile, Holland, Palmer, Estevao, Garnacho, Guiu, Mheuka.

Saka, meanwhile, was not named on Arsenal’s bench after he was forced to pull out of the warm-up before the win at Elland Road last weekend.

The Arsenal winger appeared to injure his groin during a warm-up drill and was replaced by Noni Madueke.

Asked about Saka’s progress, Arteta said: ‘He’s okay.

‘We need to have more tests tomorrow to see how he is. This game was too short.’

Arteta makes three changes to his side from the win against Leeds as Kepa Arrizabalaga replaces David Raya in goal, Eberechi Eze comes in for Kai Havertz, while Gabriel Martinelli starts ahead of Leandro Trossard.

Arsenal head into the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea with a 3-2 advantage following their win at Stamford Bridge in the first leg.
