Protests have erupted across the US as ICE continues their detainment of families under Donald Trump’s orders.
Activists are demanding the removal of Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) officers after eight people have been killed in their raids across major cities in the US.
This includes the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis as they attended protests.
Demonstrations are taking place across the country from today, with student groups at the University of Minnesota calling for a ‘national shutdown’.
This includes discouraging people from attending school, work and from purchasing anything to ‘shut down the economy’.
What will the strikes look like?
Tomorrow organisers will stage an ‘ICE Out of Everywhere National Day of Action’ which will include actions in all 50 states and in Washington DC.
A variety of protests, demonstrations and vigils have been organised, lasting the weekend.

Walkouts will be carried out across universities and workplaces, with protests outside ICE detention facilities.
Demonstrations will also target airports where detainees are being deported from.
Various lawmakers will also be included, with organisers claiming to have tracked voting histories to see who has supported the expansion of ICE’s powers.
Protestors are also calling for hotels to stop providing accommodation to ICE agents
Locals businesses, including gas stations and restaurants, have been told to ‘#DontServeIce’.
Why are the strikes taking place?

Protestors are demanding for justice for people detained by ICE.
They follow on from mass mobilisations in Minneapolis, where hundreds of businesses closed and thousands of people joined a general strike.
Five-year-old Liam Ramos was detained earlier this month in Minnesota as he returned home from school, gaining international attention.
Wael Tarabishi, a 30-year-old man with a rare genetic disease, died in hospital in Texas after his caregiver dad Meher, 62, was detained by ICE.
ICE did not grant the dad permission to attend his funeral.
Gloriann Sahay, a national coordinator with protest movement 50501, said: ‘We are responding to people’s outrage. We’ve seen the Overton window shifting.
‘We’re seeing people from typically non-political spectrums get involved in this conversation and say: “This doesn’t feel like America.”‘
