A 95 year old woman was restrained and intimidated during a ‘vile’ attempted robbery at her home.
Officers were dispatched to a property on Belcroft Drive in Little Hulton, Salford at approximately 11am on Tuesday, January 27, , reports the Manchester Evening News.
“It is believed that a man entered the property after offering to clean the woman’s windows, before tying her hands together” Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
The intruder then demanded money and her purse from the elderly victim. Fortunately, the attempted theft was thwarted when a friend of the woman arrived at the residence and challenged him, according to GMP.
The suspect made off from the scene and the victim was left physically unharmed, officers confirmed.
Whilst no arrests have been made, detectives have confirmed that ‘extensive enquiries’ are being conducted to trace and apprehend the perpetrator. Authorities are appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage which could assist the investigation to get in touch..
The suspect is described as a white male, thought to be aged between his late 60s and early 70s, GMP said. “He had short mousy brown hair which was combed back, no facial hair, glasses, and appeared well-kempt. He was wearing a dark raincoat jacket, jeans and dark-coloured shoes” they added.
Police presence has been increased in the locality in response to the incident. Detective Inspector Paul Davies, from GMP’s Salford district, said: “This was a vile incident in which a woman was tied up and threatened in an address, and we are determined to locate the man responsible.
“Thankfully, this was not a more serious situation and we commend the brave actions of the lady’s friend who confronted the man and called officers.
“As we progress this investigation, we are appealing for anyone with any information to please come forward. It could be something big or small– it all assists in our work.”
Witnesses or those holding information are urged to contact Greater Manchester Police on 101, or utilise the Live Chat facility available on their website, referencing log number 1082 of 27/01/26.
