A body believed to be that of a missing Liverpool woman was pulled from a freezing pond today after reports emergency services had to ‘cut through the ice and pull someone out.’
Emergency services rushed to an area near a pond in Sheffield, at around 12.20pm today (Sunday).
Yorkshire Ambulance Services arrived at Arbourthorne Pond in Sheffield, reports the Mirror. An ambulance team leader, and critical care paramedic were called to the scene as locals reported seeing ‘loads and loads’ of police who were there for ‘four or five hours.’
Police said they believe the body is that of missing woman, Eileen. In a police appeal, it was revealed that she was last seen in the Errington Avenue area of Arbourthorne between 4pm and 5pm on Saturday, January 10. Her family have been informed.
The police appeal also said Eileen was originally from the Liverpool area and ‘known to have a scouse accent.’
An eyewitness said: “They pulled the someone out of the pond but I couldn’t see how they had fallen in. They cut through the ice. Kids have been walking on it and cycling on it for the last couple of days. It’s really sad”
A picture from the junction of Eastern Avenue and Errington Way in Sheffield showed one ambulance and around five police cars at the scene near Arbourthorne Pond.
South Yorkshire Police in a statement confirmed that the body was of a woman.
“Officers searching for missing woman Eileen have today (11 January) sadly found a body at Arbourthorne Pond in Sheffield.
“While formal identification is yet to take place, officers believe it to be that of Eileen.
“Her family has been informed and is being supported by officers at this time.
“Thank you to everyone who shared our appeal.”
