A man is in hospital after he was reportedly attacked with an axe near a shopping centre: here’s everything you need to know

  • A man is still in hospital after a “serious” assault in Bootle last night, January 22. The ECHO understands a man was hit on the head with an axe.
  • At around 5.45pm on Thursday, January 22, Merseyside Police were called to Stanley Road following reports a man in his 40s had been assaulted and suffered lacerations to his head and face, caused by a bladed weapon. The victim was taken to hospital for assessment, where he remains in a stable condition.
  • Investigations are ongoing to trace the offenders with police carrying out door-to-door enquiries, forensic and CCTV work. The attack is believed to have happened near a bingo hall.
  • People in the area told the ECHO how a man was seen with “blood everywhere.” The man is believed to have been attacked on Stanley Road then walked down to Bootle Strand.
  • A large area of Stanley Road was cordoned off, including the entrance to the shopping centre and a number of shops and restaurants. House-to-house, forensic and CCTV enquiries are ongoing, police say.
