Paddy Pimblett has shared a statement online after he suffered defeat against Justin Gaethje in his bid to claim the UFC interim lightweight championship last weekend. The fight was won by a unanimous decision as the judges scored 48-47 49-46 49-46 in Gaethje’s favour.
Paddy, known as Paddy the Baddy, has since shared a thank you message to his social media followers. He said: “It’s still in my destiny to win that gold!” Sharing some photos from the fight, the 31-year-old star said: “Hope everyone enjoyed my fight just as much as I did, want to thank everyone that came to support and everyone watching at home.”
He informed his followers he is “all good” after the fight and has no injuries.
He said: “I’m all good no injuries, went into the fight feeling amazing. I had a great camp and an easy weight cut. No excuses, the better man won on the night @justin_gaethje.
“Congratulations brother, it was an honour to share the cage with such a legend go get that undisputed title- your career deserves it.
“Hopefully we can run it back for the undisputed because I still know it’s in my destiny to win that gold! @ufc thank you for the opportunity yous all know I’ll be back for that belt in the near future.”
Taking to the comments, Paddy’s followers sent their support and good wishes to the MMA star.
One said: “What a guy! Proud of ya mate.”
A second said: “You’re my hero, man. Keep your head up. You’re young and have a lot of potential, but you should use your main advantage (grappling) more. Looking forward to seeing your next fight!”
A third added: “Done the city proud you’ll be back.”
Paddy’s wife Laura also took to social media as she told her followers he “will be back”. She later said: “Now get me home to my baby girls. I have missed them so much. Can’t wait for cuddles.”
Paddy and Laura welcomed their twin baby girls in April 2024. At the time, Paddy shared some photo of himself, Laura, and their new arrivals. He said: “17/4/2024 the day our lives changed forever. all worth it for yous two perfect little girls Betsy and Margot Pimblett.”
The Huyton-born mixed martial artist tied the knot with long-term partner Laura in a ceremony attended by the likes of fellow UFC star Molly McCann and singer Jamie Webster in 2023.
The couple have been together since they were teenagers and he proposed to his partner while on holiday in Thailand.
Before Paddy and Laura welcomed their twins into the world, he posted a picture of the baby scan and said: Got something to fight for more than ever now.”
Since their arrival, the family have enjoyed making special memories together, including a holiday to California and a trip to Santa’s Grotto.
