The brand will open its first city centre store in a number of days’ time
The opening date for a discount chain’s latest store has been announced. For months now, the space in Clayton Square that previously homed Bodycare has been empty.
The high street beauty brand announced the closure of that particular store alongside 30 others across the UK back in September. It came as the company collapsed into administration just a few weeks prior. At the time, administrators said, as a result of a shortage of stock and the cost of running high street shops it was no longer viable to keep all the remaining 115 stores open.
It saw “everything must go” posters being plastered in the windows, with a countdown of days being changed as its end drew closer.
Fast forward to now, and Bodycare is being replaced by another similar brand in the form of Savers. The store, owned by the same company as Superdrug, sells discount health, beauty, and household items.
On the shelves, you will find everything from branded toiletries, cosmetics, skincare, haircare, fragrances, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and baby products. The new store, opening on Thursday, January 22, also brings employment opportunities, creating 10 new jobs in the area.
Store manager, Rachel Parrott, will be giving away 500 Savers goody bags, worth more than £15, to the first 500 customers to make any purchase.
Savers stores operations director Sean Watret told the ECHO: “I am delighted to announce the opening of Savers in Liverpool. Our customers can expect to shop the brands they love at unbeatable prices. We are excited to become your one-stop shop for all your home, health, and beauty needs.”
This will be the brand’s only venture in the city centre. Posters currently up in the shop window, directly opposite Clayton Square Boots, tease “coming soon”.
Savers can, however, already be found in Merseyside. It has venues in Birkenhead, Wallasey, Bootle and Old Swan, to name a few. The ECHO will be bringing you more on the store when possible.
It’s now been 36 years since Clayton Square first opened in the city centre, and with it brought a host of new stores to Liverpool. Since 1989, the shopping centre has seen some big changes, from how it looks to the businesses that have called it home.
Through the years, we’ve seen huge brands such as Tammy Girl, Principles, Disney and Oasis open on site. When it first opened, Clayton Square’s footfall was 7.8m and in its early days, the second level was home to a café, toilets and an internet cafe.
But over the years we have seen some trends and shops, like many other shopping centres and areas through the UK, come and go.
Its makeover, which began in 2014, transformed the centre into a single trading mall, with the removal of escalators opening it up. It is currently home to Boots, B&M, Clayton Nails and Spa and several other businesses.
