Passing vehicles could be seen watching the aftermath of the crash
This was the moment a car erupted into flames after a three-vehicle crash on the M62. Emergency services were called to the M62 eastbound carriageway near junction 9 near Warrington at shortly before 4pm on Sunday, January 18.
In a video sent to the Liverpool ECHO, the full extent of the incident can be seen as smoke was visible from some distance away as passing cars slowed down to see the aftermath of the crash. Meanwhile, some drivers on the bridge overhead could be seen getting out of their vehicles to try and asses what had happened.
In a statement released by the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service following the incident, a spokesperson said: “Emergency services have been dealing with a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on the M62 eastbound carriageway near Junction 9.
“One of the vehicles involved in the crash caught fire and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. The motorway was closed in both directions while the fire was being extinguished.
“Shortly before 4pm the westbound side of the motorway was reopened. Ambulance crews on also at the scene assessing one person involved in the collision. No one was trapped in their vehicle.
“The eastbound side of the motorway is expected to remain closed for some time.”
However, traffic along the stretch of the M62 is now back to normal.
