Martin Lewis has spoken about the grocery shopping deal online

Martin Lewis and his team at MoneySavingExpert.com have encouraged anyone who shops at Asda to consider signing up for an online deal that could save them money on their next few grocery hauls. The offer is set to end at the end of this month, but due to the limited number of codes, it could run out sooner.

Food shopping is not just an essential part of life; it is also getting more and more expensive as people cope with regular price rises across many retailers. So, if shoppers can manage to make savings without sacrificing quality, it seems like a great deal.

Asda is running a time-limited deal that could help customers save up to £55 across their upcoming supermarket purchases, reports the Mirror. The offer, spotlighted by Martin Lewis’ team of professionals at MoneySavingExpert, might become unavailable days ahead of the January 31 deadline due to its popularity.

Since it’s limited to the first 23,000 customers who use their code, the offer might end fast. The deal is that shoppers have to make a minimum spend of £60 on their weekly grocery run (excluding delivery fees) and, in exchange, the supermarket will reduce up to £20 from the final bill.

Certain products won’t count towards the total – including alcohol, tobacco, e-cigarettes, gift vouchers, infant formula, and postage stamps. Otherwise, virtually everything else in the shop qualifies for the £60 spend, but customers will want to take advantage and obtain their codes before it’s too late.

How to get the £55 discount deal with Asda

To secure the offer, start by signing up for Asda’s online shopping and agreeing to receive promotional material from the retailer. This enables customers to get an exclusive code to make their initial savings.

If you’ve previously purchased from Asda George online, you can still access this offer, provided you’ve never placed a grocery order previously. Customers must use this first code when settling their online food bill before 11.59pm on Saturday, January 31.

Once that order arrives, customers should check their email to receive their subsequent discount code. Each code will expire two weeks from the date it’s issued. In total, customers can get the following reductions each time they shop:

  • £20 off their first shop over £60
  • £10 off their second shop over £60
  • £10 off their third shop over £60
  • £15 off their fourth shop over £60

The offer amounts to substantial savings, as highlighted by Martin Lewis’ team. They said: “If you do all four shops, this essentially works out as £55 off £240+. You don’t have to do all four shops, so you could just use the initial £20 off £60+ code if that’s all you want.”

In separate financial news, Martin Lewis has previously warned anyone who still has unused Christmas gift cards. The consumer champion expressed his views on various matters during a recent episode of his BBC podcast.

While these may seem like a thoughtful present for loved ones, allowing them to choose their own items from well-known retailers, Mr Lewis made it clear he is ‘anti gift card’. One key reason is that once these vouchers have expired, consumers have “no legal rights” to obtain a refund.
