Here’s everything you need to know after masked men stormed a Post Office with a gun and left staff fearing for their life
- Merseyside Police were called at around 11am on Wednesday, January 21, to reports three men had entered the Breck Road branch in Anfield and attempted to steal cash. It was reported the masked men, armed with a possible firearm, threatened a woman during the incident.
- The suspects, who left empty handed, were described as wearing all dark clothing and face coverings. They fled the scene on foot towards a dark coloured Audi that was parked in Home Bargains car park, at the rear of the Post Office, before driving away from the area.
- The Breck Road Post Office closed for two days before reopening this morning (Friday, January 23). When the ECHO visited the branch yesterday morning (January 23), it was busy as usual with customers paying their bills and collecting packages.
- Two staff members at the Post Office, who asked not to be named, said they were working on Wednesday when three men somehow breached their security procedures and entered through the back of the branch. The gang followed one of the staff member’s who had a gun pointed at her by one of the men. The staff members said they weren’t threatened directly but heard what was happening before pressing the panic button. The staff member who faced the masked men directly has not yet returned to work. You can read more on what they said on the ECHO website.
- One staff member believes it was a pre-mediated attack due to the planning it would have taken to get past the locked doors and the other security procedures they have in place.
- Merseyside Police is investigating the incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
