Music played out over the final scenes of the episode
Coronation Street viewers issued the same complaint when the latest episode of the soap came to an end. Viewers are still getting used to the new half-an-hour format, compared to last year’s hour-long episodes. But the 30-minute schedule doesn’t mean there’s any less drama in Weatherfield.
Wednesday’s episode of the ITV soap opened with Tyrone trying to attack Carl as he questioned if he was responsible for his hit and run. Meanwhile, there was an awkward interaction when Jodie ran into Kit in the cafe as Roy and Nina spoke about the new pen pal he’s been chatting to over text.
But viewers were more interested in what’s going on between Carla and Lisa. Soap fans, who have named the couple “Swarla”, are patiently waiting for them to reunite after months of chaos.
One of Weatherfield’s favourite couples broke off their engagement last year following the unexpected arrival of Lisa’s ex Becky Swain.
The local detective was lost for words when her ex-wife, who had supposedly been dead for four years, arrived at her house. Becky soon laid out her intentions and was keen to get Lisa and Betsy back in her life for good.
Becky was close to succeeding, plotting a move to Spain with new identities and kidnapping Carla in the process. While the Corriedale episode brought lots of sadness after the death of Billy, it also meant Becky’s plan finally came to an abrupt end and fans were pleased to see her go behind bars.
In recent weeks, Lisa has been trying to win Carla over and she wants to get their relationship back on track. She sent a heartwarming letter to the Underworld boss asking to meet for lunch at the Bistro.
But Lisa was heartbroken when Carla failed to turn up. After drinking a full bottle of wine, she stumbled to find Carla who was in a business meeting at the Chariot Square hotel
Lisa insulted Carla’s clients and threw up in the hotel reception before Ryan stepped in to help the situation.
But as the episode came to an end, Lisa lay on the sofa at home as she said: “I didn’t think you were coming [home]. I thought you hated me.”
The camera panned up to see Carla comforting her as she said: “Well I was being pig-headed.” Fans were delighted to see the couple express their love for each other, even if it was in Lisa’s drunken state.
Viewers were distracted as they noticed music playing over the final few scenes of the episode. An intentional backing track played over the scenes of Lisa and Carla, as well as Kevin who was alone in his flat and also the Driscolls having dinner.
Corrie viewers took to social media after noticing the unusual addition to the episode, with many saying they felt it didn’t fit.
On X, one said: “Loved the final scene where we physically see Carla let all the tension go. Really could have done without the music though.”
A second said: “What was that music used at the end of #Corrie today? Just doesn’t work, please stop doing this!” and a third said: “The way the music just started playing suddenly, without any proper build up.”
A fourth said: “Stop with the music PLEASE.” Another wrote on X: “Just let the actors deliver their lines.”
Fans will have to wait until tomorrow to find out if Carla and Lisa manage to put the past behind them. Will it be happy ever after for Swarla?
Coronation Street airs weekdays at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX
