The bar exists in a world of its own under a dreamy city centre passage
A hidden vinyl bar, with floor length curtains preventing outsiders from peering inside, is well worth seeking out. Simone’s Cocktail Club does little to advertise itself, you might not even realise you’re on the right street, but stepping through its doors feels like entering an entirely different world.
Tucked away just off Castle Street and Dale Street lies arguably the most beautiful street around, Queen Avenue. Home to a collection of Grade II listed buildings, old-fashioned shop fronts, Georgian lampposts and thriving independent businesses, a stroll down this cosy passage feels like taking a step back in time.
Most would describe Queen Avenue as one of Liverpool’s most beautiful locations so a new arrival must respect and retain the area’s integrity. Simone’s Cocktail Club is effortlessly stylish and cool, and what I believe is a phenomenal new addition to the area.
The bar is tucked on the lower level and underneath a footpath so you might not see it at first. The closed curtains won’t allow you a snoop inside either.
Aside from a few whispers of its opening, it’s been relatively off my radar. The venue was well populated on a boring January Monday evening when I paid my visit, which was an immediate good sign.
My party and I were greeted by a gentleman at the door who ushered us over to a table at the end of the bar. I was immediately drawn in by the dark, moody interiors and low level chatting.
The low light felt mysterious, and even now I’m not certain I could relay exactly how the walls, ceiling and floor were decorated other than with a mid century feel and drenched in blood red lighting.
We chatted leisurely, enjoying our surroundings and own company, while tuning in and out of the array of genres played through the speakers. Simone’s is one of the few venues in the city billed as a listening bar, boasting a live DJ playing vinyl records rather than a Spotify playlist, adding yet more charm to the sophisticated setting.
Although we spent only a single drink’s worth of time in Simone’s due to pre-existing plans, we loved everything about it. The unanimous verdict: “Isn’t this place so nice?”
The service was quick, sharp and friendly, but not too much it killed the low-energy, chilled atmosphere.
The cocktails were exquisite with a clear sense of expert crafting in their specs. Simone’s is the sort of venue you don’t want to leave once seated due to the fear you won’t find anywhere better.
My stint in Simone’s Cocktail Club was brief yet impactful. If I can visit unannounced on a typical Monday evening and waltz away this infatuated then imagine the atmosphere any other day of the week.
The next time I want to unwind with a bespoke cocktail I’ll be calling into Simone’s.
