TV host Davina McCall and her husband Michael Douglas have been sharing their aspirations for 2026, following a challenging year that culminated in the pair tying the knot in December.
In the latest episode of their podcast ‘Making the Cut’, they touched on Davina’s health journey, with the star having recently completed her radiotherapy treatment for breast cancer, before posing a question to listeners about any perceived changes since the start of the new year.
Commenting on the supermoon sighting on January 3, The Masked Singer star observed: “Ever since the 1st of January everything has changed…It was the supermoons…we got married and it was the supermoons.”
Celebrity hairdresser Michael, 49, who also sensed a shift since the new year, then shared his own heartbreak from the past year.
Becoming emotional, he admitted: “I think I had the hardest year of my life last year. I think it was so hard. It broke me really. I would say by November, I was done.”
“I just thought, ‘I don’t think I can recover from this.’ And I cannot tell you how good I feel….It’s the best I’ve felt for as long as I can remember.”
To which Davina, 58, responded: “But you have, and you are amazing.” Davina’s commendation of her husband Michael comes as she herself has received an outpouring of support following her breast cancer diagnosis, which came shortly after she underwent surgery to remove a benign brain tumour.
Earlier this month, the former Big Brother host shared with her followers that she had finished her radiotherapy treatment.
In an Instagram post, she candidly discussed her experience. She remarked: “It’s a bit weird having a National Quitters Day, because you kind of want to say to somebody ‘oh happy National Quitters Day’ but no, we shouldn’t be celebrating that.
“There’s nothing happy about that. We should have a ‘happy, congratulations on still going for it when everyone else is giving up day’. That’s what we should say. And it is quite difficult at this time of year because all the buzz of Christmas and New Year has subsided and it’s just a grey stormy day.
“I in fact am going to go and have a poke around and watch something because I finished my radiotherapy today. And it was very, very emotional.”
Davina’s reflections followed her attendance at HELLO!’s Inaugural Power List event, which took place shortly after her initial breast surgery.
At the event, she provided an update on her health, stating: “I’m grateful for every minute, because I know it might go, and I’m all right with that. I don’t want to die, obviously – I love life – but I’m not obsessed with dying now.
“I’m the happiest I have ever been. I’m in such a good space. And it’s age that’s given me that, because it is experience; you don’t get the experience without ageing.
“Some people learn quickly and some people don’t. It’s taken me until my fifties to learn enough to make myself feel really, deeply content.”
Davina is set to appear on The Masked Singer on ITV at 7pm today (Saturday 17th January).
