The Coronation Street star who plays Daniel Osbourne has thrilled fans by offering a glimpse into his personal life with his actor boyfriend.

Rob Mallard joined the ITV soap in 2016, stepping into the shoes of Daniel Osbourne, son of cobbles legend Ken Barlow (William Roache). Throughout his time on the show, his character has experienced numerous romantic storylines.

These have included his heartbreaking marriage to Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn), who tragically passed away in October 2019, and his recent entanglement with manipulative predator Megan (Beth Nixon), who has been grooming teenager Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale).

Off-screen, Rob’s romantic journey has also captured attention – notably his breakup with cobbles veteran Daniel Brocklebank, known for portraying Billy Mayhew.

At present, Rob is in a relationship with fellow actor Matthew Martin. The couple made their relationship official at the British Soap Awards in 2023, reports the Mirror.

Matthew works as an actor too, and even made a brief appearance on Coronation Street last year, portraying a police officer who apprehended Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) during a tense episode.

On Wednesday (January 8), Rob delighted his Instagram followers by sharing adorable photographs from Matt’s birthday celebrations. The soap actor reposted Matt’s Instagram content to his own story.

The collection featured lovely images of the couple marking Matt’s special occasion, including pictures from a winter stroll. Matt wrote alongside the post: “Birthday shenanigans… Thanks all for the Birthday Wishes!” Rob’s Corrie colleagues were quick to respond to the post, with messages filling up the comments section.

Lisa George, known for her role as Beth Tinker, wrote: “Omg! Happy birthday, angel! ! Say day as my nephew xxx.”

Sally Carman, who portrays Abi Webster, also expressed her joy: “Happy, Happy Birthday, lovely!” Meanwhile, Vicky Myers, the actress behind Lisa Swain, added: “Happy birthday x.”

Prior to his relationship with Max, Rob was romantically linked with fellow soap actor Daniel Brocklebank, who has been playing Weatherfield’s vicar Billy Mayhew since 2014. The couple made their relationship public when Rob claimed a British Soap Award for Best Newcomer in 201.

During his acceptance speech, he declared emotionally: “Even though this is fantastic, Dan, you’re the best thing I’ve ever taken home.”

Nevertheless, within just a few months, Rob and Daniel had called time on their romance, citing the strain of both working alongside each other and maintaining their personal relationship.
