- Jackie Rutter, 53, was shot dead at her home in Moreton in October 2022, after answering her front door. She was a mum of six and grandmother of five, and had no involvement in the drug operation linked to the crime.
- The killing was a targeted revenge attack connected to drug dealing, after Ms Rutter’s sons took a mobile phone used by the “JJ Line” drugs operation run by James Byrne and Preston Connolly.
- James Byrne, Simon Allen and David Harrison were convicted of murder and jailed for life, while Barrie Glynn was convicted of manslaughter for acting as the getaway driver.
- Byrne and Connolly carried out the shooting, arriving in a stolen car; Connolly later fled to Turkey and did not stand trial. Allen helped by carrying out reconnaissance and burning the getaway car, while Harrison’s home was used as a base.
- The judge handed severe sentences to the defendants. Byrne must serve at least 40 years, Allen 28 years, Harrison 26 years, and Glynn received a 30-year sentence with two-thirds to be served in custody.
- The judge described the murder as carefully planned and driven by revenge, stressing Jackie Rutter was an innocent victim caught up in extreme violence linked to the drugs trade.
