Donald Trump has issued an ominous new threat to Denmark and Europe over Greenland.The President, on his way to Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting, was asked what he would tell European leaders regarding Greenland.Mr Trump said: “I don’t think they’re going to push back too much. Look, we have to have it.”They have to have this done. They can’t protect it. Denmark, they’re wonderful people, and I know the leaders – they’re are very good people, but they don’t even go there.”The President went on to confirm he had spoken to Nato General Secretary Mark Rutte concerning the Arctic territory, saying he had “agreed to a meeting of the various parties in Davos”.He wrote on social media: “As I expressed to everyone, very plainly, Greenland is imperative for national and world security. There can be no going back – On that, everyone agrees.”The United States of America is the most powerful country anywhere on the globe, by far. Much of the reason for this is a rebuilding of our military during my first term, which rebuilding continues at even more expedited pace.”We are the only power that can ensure peace throughout the world – And it is done, quite simply, through strength!”Just minutes later, the President shared text messages he had received from French President Emmanuel Macron.The messages showed Mr Macron saying that the pair are “totally in line on Syria” and that “we can do great things on Iran”.However, the French leader added that he does “not understand” what Mr Trump is “doing on Greenland”.Mr Macron then suggested setting up a meeting after Davos in Paris on Thursday afternoon – before inviting Mr Trump to have dinner in the French capital. Well, nobody wants him because he will be out of office very soon.”I’ll put a 200 per cent tariff on his wines and champagnes, and he’ll join, but he doesn’t have to join.”In addition to the screenshots, Mr Trump shared an image of him appearing to lecture Sir Keir Starmer and a host of European leaders, with a map displaying the US, Canada, Greenland and Venezuela – all draped in the American flag.He finished off his flurry of Truth Social posts with an image of him, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio planting an American flag in the soil of the Arctic island. A sign sitting beside the trio reads: “Greenland – US territory, est 2026.”Tensions have escalated between Mr Trump and Europe since the President threatened to slap a 10 per cent tariff on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Finland, the Netherlands and the UK from February 1.The levy will rise to 25 per cent on June 1, with Mr Trump vowing to keep it in place until a deal is secured for the “complete and total purchase” of the Arctic territory.Our Standards:
