‘No backbone!’ Keir Starmer skewered over Greenland stance as Donald Trump slaps UK with fresh tariffs

Sir Keir Starmer has been accused of having “no backbone” after Donald Trump imposed fresh tariffs on the UK and EU over Greenland.Speaking to GB News, Financial Specialist Wolfgang Douglas hit out at the Prime Minister for not being in “lockstep” with the US President over his bid for the Danish territory.Donald Trump has vowed to implement a wave of increasing tariffs on a wave of countries including Britain until the US is allowed to purchase Greenland.Announcing the move on Truth Social, Mr Trump said: “Starting on February 1, 2026, all of the above mentioned Countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Finland), will be charged a 10 per cent tariff on any and all goods sent to the United States of America.

“On June 1, 2026, the tariff will be increased to 25 per cent. This tariff will be due and payable until such time as a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland.”Reacting to the announcement, Mr Douglas told GB News: “At the end of the day, we should be in lockstep with America. Big brother, little brother, the UK and the US are allies. The original allies, the original A-Team. “So the fact that we have Keir Starmer trying to beat him on every single subject – we’ve got our own mayor completely disgracing us every day, and now we’re going to have a full on argument how we’re not in the position of helping our number one ally protect us. The Golden Dome protects the UK, it protects the world, it doesn’t just protect the US.”Highlighting that Nato is an “arm of America”, he added: “Nato is an arm of America, so when Nato has taken a stand against America, it’s like one of my divisions in my company having a stand against my group holdings company. Doesn’t doesn’t really make any sense. “Nato is arguing with Trump, it’s political drama, it’s not real. If Trump was to remove himself out of Nato, there wouldn’t be a Nato.”Arguing that the bid for Greenland has been a motive for America for “decades”, not just as a result of Donald Trump, Mr Douglas explained: “Greenland is is a defensive position. The US has been wanting to acquire green Greenland for decades and decades, this is not brand new. “This isn’t the first time anyone has ever heard of the US wanting to be a part of taking over Greenland. This is a very old conversation. All Trump is actually doing is renewing it, and he’s doing it in the name of security.”As Nana argued whether Donald Trump is “right” to want control of Greenland, Mr Douglas hit back: “For the Greenlanders, it will be the best meal ticket they’ve ever had. Because you’re talking about $100,000 cash in hand. They’re going to have an economic boom. LATEST DEVELOPMENTS’Classic Trump!’ US President’s ‘provocative’ tariffs defended over ‘important’ need for American control of GreenlandDonald Trump unleashes brutal new tariffs on Britain over failure to back Greenland takeoverTony Blair handed key role in rebuilding Gaza with Donald Trump giving him job on ‘Board of Peace'”You’re talking about science parks, you’re talking about huge investments coming into their country, which, let’s be honest with you, the Danish, what have they invested? Show me their investment in the last 30 years. Show me their roads, show me their airports, show me their space centres. There isn’t any.”Asked what impact the tariffs will have on the UK, Mr Douglas reiterated his argument that Sir Keir should be on Donald Trump’s side: “The UK should be in lockstep. “There should be no tariffs with the UK and the US, because the UK and the US should have zero tariffs. There should be no tariffs towards them and no tariffs towards us.”Criticising Sir Keir’s stance on Greenland, Mr Douglas told GB News: “To be fair, Starmer didn’t want Trump in the first place. He threw his hat in with Kamala. So the man’s flip flopped from the day he threw his hat with Kamala, and then he flip flopped when Trump got in and said congratulations. “Then he went over to the United States and agreed to everything. The man has no backbone, he has no strength. He’s a leader that is leading us into nowhere.”Agreeing with Mr Douglas, commentator Lizzie Cundy told the GB News panel: “My worry is we’re getting these tariffs, and this country is on its knees as it is. And I blame Keir Starmer at the minute. He’s running around 10 Downing Street like a scared rabbit with a hernia. What is he going to do?”I totally agree with what you’ve said Wolfgang. I call it coalition of the pointless, he’s a liability in every way, because he’s played it all wrong with America. “We shouldn’t be getting these tariffs. Trump says how much he loves his country, he’s got a Scottish mother. How much he loves the royal family. I’m sure Trump doesn’t want to do this, but he has no choice because Starmer hasn’t ever shown loyalty, real true loyalty to him.”
