Boris Johnson has weighed in on the escalating Beckham family dispute, describing Brooklyn Beckham’s public accusations against his parents as a “bombshell attack” that sent shockwaves through Britain.Writing in the Daily Mail, the former prime minister said he first learned of the story on Monday evening and initially feared news of a terror incident before discovering the true nature of what he termed the “Brooklyn attack”.Mr Johnson claimed “in the newsrooms of Britain a silence fell as hard-bitten reporters tried to cope with the sheer scale of the story”, before turning his attention to the claims made against Sir David Beckham and Lady Victoria Beckham.Despite the gravity of the allegations, he defended the couple, writing that his parental instinct would be “completely to exonerate” them.

He praised Sir David as “a complete gent: always kind, polite, well-briefed, on time”, adding both parents had “worked phenomenally hard” while generating “truly colossal export revenues” for Britain.Brooklyn, 26, made his allegations public on January 19 through a series of Instagram Stories, breaking what he described as years of silence on family matters. The eldest Beckham child accused his parents of “controlling” behaviour and of manipulating press narratives throughout his life. He alleged they had posted “performative social media posts” and planted “countless lies in the media” while “endlessly trying to ruin” his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham.Brooklyn further claimed family members told him on the eve of his wedding that Nicola was “not blood” and “not family”.The most explosive allegation centred on the couple’s 2022 wedding reception, where Brooklyn said his mother “hijacked” what was meant to be his romantic first dance with his bride.“She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone,” he wrote, adding: “I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.” He has previously claimed the moment left his wife in tears and overshadowed the celebration.LATEST DEVELOPMENTSNext James Bond: Huge shake-up as Oscar nods create new frontrunner to replace Daniel CraigLisa Riley furiously blasts fake pregnancy rumours after ITV Emmerdale star shared personal woesVictoria Beckham pens gushing tribute to youngest son Cruz amid Brooklyn dramaFat Tony, who performed at the wedding, has since corroborated parts of Brooklyn’s account. The DJ, whose real name is Tony Marnoch, described the mother-son dance as “awkward” in comments to The Telegraph. His remarks mark the first independent confirmation from someone present at the event and lend weight to Brooklyn’s claims that the moment caused visible discomfort among guests. Brooklyn has alleged that singer Marc Anthony called him to the stage for what was meant to be his planned dance with Nicola, only for his mother to be waiting there instead.Mr Johnson alluded to his situation in his column, writing: “I hesitate to say who was really to blame in the whole affair, but let me put on record now that in any future wedding involving any of my children I reserve the absolute right as a probable funder of the event to dance inappropriately on anyone I darn well please.”The ex-Tory leader continued: “And my instinct, as a parent, would be completely to exonerate Sir David and Lady Beckham.”Brooklyn’s younger brother Cruz Beckham, 20, appears to have sided with his mother through pointed social media activity. On January 19, Cruz liked an Instagram post comparing Victoria Beckham’s alleged wedding dance to her provocative performance of Not Such An Innocent Girl at the 2001 TMF Awards, which saw the former Spice Girl dancing in leather trousers and a bra beneath a sheer top.The following day, he also engaged with a comedic Instagram Reel by Olly Hume parodying the wedding DJ moment, in which Ginuwine’s Pony plays unexpectedly during a supposed mother-son dance. The video carried the caption: “Interesting moves Victoria.”Cruz’s activity has been widely interpreted as indirect pushback against his older brother’s account of events.Sir David has remained publicly silent on the allegations, instead continuing to focus on his professional commitments.Earlier this week, the former England captain shared a promotional video for Adidas on Instagram, captioned “Predator vs F50”. Supporters quickly flooded the comments section with messages of solidarity for both him and his wife. One fan wrote: “This man is a legend! He works hard for this family and loves his family. He provides so much for his wife and children. I’m not going to believe the rubbish that is being put out there.”Others declared themselves firmly on “Team Beckham” and sent “extra hugs to VB”, with one commenter saying they were posting “just to show what team I’m on”, suggesting public sympathy may be shifting back towards David and Victoria despite Brooklyn’s damaging claims. While the Beckhams come to terms with the family divide and PR disaster, Mr Johnson said he believes “we need the Beckham family dramas, not just for the huge vicarious pleasure, the schadenfreude, but also to help us manage and understand our own problems and disappointments in life”.Our Standards:
