Syrian government forces are continuing their advance in the country’s northeast to take back territory previously held by the Kurds. Meanwhile, the interior ministry says some 80 Islamic State group members have been recaptured after 120 escaped from a prison on January 19 amid clashes between government forces and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces. The fighting comes despite a ceasefire signed between the two sides on January 18.
