NEW YORK — Saudi Arabia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdulaziz Alwasil, said the only path to a just and comprehensive peace lies in solidifying a ceasefire in Gaza, preventing displacement, rejecting any attempts to divide the territory, and ensuring a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.Speaking on behalf of the Kingdom at a UN Security Council session titled “The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question,” Alwasil stressed the importance of implementing the ceasefire agreement in all its phases and provisions, including opening crossings to allow the uninterrupted entry of humanitarian aid.He reiterated Saudi Arabia’s firm rejection of what he described as blatant Israeli violations of international and humanitarian law, condemning in particular the targeting of facilities of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and efforts to obstruct its operations.Alwasil also noted that Saudi Arabia has recently signed an accession document to the US-led “Peace Council,” chaired by President Donald Trump, describing it as a transitional body operating under UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and aimed at supporting efforts to advance peace. The ambassador reaffirmed the Kingdom’s position against any forced displacement of Palestinians and any measures that undermine the unity and territorial integrity of Palestinian land, emphasizing that these principles are essential to achieving lasting security and stability in the region.
