Chelsea are not currently considering former midfielder Cesc Fabregas as a replacement for Enzo Maresca.

The Blues parted company with Maresca on New Year’s Day after a run of just one win in seven Premier League matches.

A number of managers have been immediately linked with the vacant role in west London, including Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola whose respective contracts at Crystal Palace and Bournemouth expire at the end of the season.

Former Chelsea star Fabregas has also emerged as an option. The former Spain international, who won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, the League Cup and Europa League with the Blues after returning to London in 2014, currently manages Italian outfit Como, a role he has held since the summer of 2024.

While he building a formidable reputation in Italy, the Mirror report he is not on the club’s shortlist.

Fabregas has already turned down another huge job this year, rejecting the chance to replace Simone Inzaghi as Inter Milan boss in the summer.

Sky Sports meanwhile report Chelsea are also unlikely to pursue Glasner and Iraola, with former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi another who is considered a non-starter.

Porto boss Francesco Farioli has been named as an option under consideration at Chelsea. However, the Italian is thought to have no interest in a move to the Premier League at this stage of his career with no contact between him and Chelsea.

Liam Rosenior is the current favourite to replace Maresca. The 41-yeart-old is the current head coach at Strasbourg, another club owned by Chelsea’s parent company BlueCo.

A statement from Chelsea on Thursday confirmed Maresca’s departure after 18 months at the helm.

It read: ‘Chelsea Football Club and head coach Enzo Maresca have parted company.

‘During his time at the club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the club.

‘With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track.’
