The 65-year-old has been charged as another man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender

A man has been charged after human remains were discovered inside of a flat. On Thursday night (January 8) police swarmed the St Helens residence and made the discovery after reports of concern were made.

George Gordon, 65, of Gerards Court was arrested at the scene and has been charged with preventing lawful and decent burial of a dead body and obstructing a coroner in the execution of his/her duty.

A 58-year-old has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. He remains in police custody and will be questioned.

Gordon will appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Monday morning, January 12. Merseyside police were called to the scene at around 11.30pm and forensics remained on the scene the following day.

Several police vehicles, along with a mobile police station were stationed in the carpark outside the block of flats and a white forensic tent had been erected to the rear of the building.

CSI officers were spotted going back and forth between the flat and police vans, carrying items including a backpack.
