As Christmas approaches it may be worth keeping a close eye on the cut-off for deliveries

People are running out of town to send letters, cards and presents in time for Christmas. The Royal Mail is urging anyone using mailing services over the festive period to prepare deliveries well in advance of what’s expected to be the busiest day at branches nationwide on December 8.

Research commissioned by the Post Office reveals that people are planning to send more presents this festive season than they did last year, with numbers rising from 20% to 33%. Customers can use Post Office locations to both collect and send pre-paid packages, working not just with Royal Mail and Parcelforce, but also with Amazon, DPD, DHL and Evri at chosen branches.

As Christmas approaches it may be worth keeping a close eye on the cut-off for deliveries as they can change. Christmas is an extremely busy time for postal workers as they collect, sort and deliver the mail to homes and businesses. December can involve long hours and high pressure, for staff to get presents delivered in time for the big day on December 25.

Every Christmas, Royal Mail allows letters to be “sent” to Santa from children. A warning about getting those letters over in time has been shared. Royal Mail states: “Writing a letter to Santa this Christmas?

“Make sure you send your letters to Santa by December 10. Don’t forget to include a full name and address on the back of the envelope so Santa can reply. Send your letters to: Santa/Father Christmas Santa’s Grotto Reindeerland XM4 5HQ.”

To write a letter to Santa, you must write Santa’s address on the envelope, put a stamp on it and include your full name and address on the back of the envelope. Royal Mail uses the information so “Santa” can reply to letters.

For all postal services, Royal Mail warns: “Allow plenty of time for posting. Please post items and gifts for Christmas early, particularly for International deliveries.

“As we approach the busiest time of year, international delivery services experience much higher volumes of parcels and letters. To help ensure your items arrive in time for Christmas, we strongly recommend posting as early as possible.” The latest postal dates for Christmas services are below:

Royal Mail services for Christmas

Wednesday, December 17: 2nd Class/2nd Class signed for

Friday, December 19: Royal Mail Tracked

Saturday, December 20: 1st Class/1st Class signed for

Sunday, December 21: Royal Mail Tracked 24

Tuesday, December 23: Special Delivery Guaranteed

Royal Mail stated: “Last posting dates are correct at the time of publishing and are subject to change. It’s always advisable to post as early as possible to ensure that your Christmas letters and parcels reach their destination in good time.”
