New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art held its annual Met Gala — an event that goes back to the late 1940s — on Monday, May 5. And this year’s theme was “Black Dandyism,” with supporters ranging from Atlanta rapper André 3000 (of OutKast fame) to basketball star Angel Reese.Right-wing media figures responded by angrily railing against the event.Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly was especially melodramatic. On her show, Kelly ranted, “We are surrounded by truly evil events. And I don’t mean to sound dramatic, but I think the Met Gala is one of them. I really do…. They’ve decided to try to get over this reputation of (gala chair and Vogue editor-in-chief) Anna Wintour being America’s biggest snob — and this thing being the most over-the-top, evil, elitist event — by pandering to Blacks.”READ MORE: ‘Power without limits’: NYT demands ‘forceful pushback’ on Trump’s ‘fantasizing’In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the End Wokeness account posted, “Met Gala 2025 lost at the ballot box.”MAGA Republican Gunther Eagleman, posting a photo of singer Janelle Monáe, tweeted, “Hollywood is full of trash.”Another far-right MAGA user on X, Cynical Publius, described the Met Gala as the most “potent symbol of where America is in 2025’—and didn’t mean it in a good way. Cynical wrote, “The people who slather themselves in the viscous slime of the Met Gala produce nothing of intrinsic value. If they were to all vanish tomorrow, nothing of material worth would be lost.”READ MORE: How MAGA Republicans could ‘disenfranchise’ millions of voters in 2026Link Lauren, a former adviser to Health & Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was triggered by former Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff’s presence at the eventLauren tweeted, “Kamala Harris attended the Met Gala tonight, which is perfectly on brand for the Democrat Party. An elite bougie event where celebrities traipse up a staircase in wildly expensive outfits. Sounds about right! Those celebrity endorsements didn’t help her campaign though! Not even Beyoncé!
