U.S. forces will deploy large reconnaissance drones in the southern Japanese prefecture of Okinawa, Defense Minister Gen Nakatani said Tuesday, in the latest effort to boost intelligence and surveillance.
MQ-4C Triton aircraft are expected to begin operating out of Kadena Air Base “within a few weeks” and their deployment period will be indefinite, Nakatani told reporters, adding the move could enhance information gathering under the Japan-U.S. alliance.
