JD Vance says it’s ‘absurd’ of Zelenskyy to accuse US of taking Russia’s side

JD Vance again slammed Zelenskyy, said his claim that US is taking Russia’s side is absurd.

The showdown between JD Vance and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zeelenskyy in the White House is not yet a thing of the past. But Vance again slammed Zelenskyy after the Ukraine president recently gave an interview to CBS in which he said the US is siding with Vladimir Putin. Vance said it’s absurd for Zelenskyy to tell the US government that they are on the side of the Russians while the US is trying to end the war.
“I think it’s sort of absurd for Zelensky to tell the [U.S.] government, which is currently keeping his entire government and war effort together, that we are somehow on the side of the Russians,” Vance said to British publication UnHerd. Vance said he had condemned Russia for the last three years and emphasized that an end to the conflict would require a recognition of both Kyiv and Moscow’s strategic objectives.
“That doesn’t mean you morally support the Russian cause, or that you support the full-scale invasion, but you do have to try to understand what are their strategic red lines, in the same way that you have to try to understand what the Ukrainians are trying to get out of the conflict,” Vance said adding that Zelenskyy’s rhetoric is certainly not productive.
After a fresh Russian attack on Ukraine’s Sumy, the war situation deteriorated. Trump, who is pressing for a resolution of the conflict, played down the attack and said it was a ‘mistake’ on the part of Russia. Zelenskyy, in his interview after the Sumy attack appealed to Trump to visit Ukraine before taking any decision. He said the visit, unlike what Vance accused earlier, won’t be orchestrated and the President can visit wherever he wants.

Trump, in his message on Truth Social, blamed Zelenskyy for the war and said it is not his war; it was started during former president Joe Biden’s time.
In their heated meeting in the White House, JD Vance accused Zelesnkyy of not being grateful to the US government. Both Vance and Zelenskyy put that episode behind them, but not quite as Zelenskyy, in his interview, said Russian narratives are prevailing in the US. Trump’s right-hand man is somehow justifying Putin’s actions, Zelenskyy said, referring to Vance.
