RFK Jr. is rehiring workers he fired and says that was the plan ‘from the beginning’

Kennedy Jr. announced there would be 10,000 jobs cut department-wide, with emails that went out to “scientists, senior leaders, doctors, inspectors and others,” the Associated Press reported. Now, thousands are being hired back, which Kennedy claimed was all part of the plan.Kennedy said he always knew he would rehire the people he was told to fire, The Huffington Post reported Friday.When he came into office, President Donald Trump created the Department of Government Efficiency by executive order and tasked tech billionaire Elon Musk with leading the effort. That initiative has been behind the upheaval and dismantling of government agencies. However, firings by DOGE at the Department of Energy and the Department of Agriculture were also rescinded after the positions were deemed necessary. Speaking about the cuts this week, Kennedy said there were always “plans to reinstate many employees and programs he began cutting last week,” said the Huffington Post.“This overhaul is about realigning HHS with its core mission: to stop the chronic disease epidemic and Make America Healthy Again,” Kennedy posted on social media April 1. “It’s a win-win for taxpayers, and for every American we serve.”By Thursday, that statement had evolved.“The part of that, DOGE — we talked about this from the beginning — is we’re going to do 80% cuts, but 20% of those are going to have to be reinstalled, because we’ll make mistakes,” Kennedy said. “And one of the things that President Trump has said is that if we make mistakes, we’re going to admit it and we’re going to remedy it.”
