‘It’s bad’ MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow slams Trump for ‘killing miracle’ drug

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow sharply criticized President Donald Trump on Friday, who she accused of turning his back on a life-saving drug that the host said has spared the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans. “It’s not like we didn’t know it was going to be terrible,” Maddow said in the opening minutes of her show. “And it is terrible,” she added as she laid into the litany of federal programs Trump has axed in his first three months after returning to the White House. That includes his proposal to kill off federal funding for Narcan, the overdose-reversing medication also known as naloxone.“Narcan…Narcan, the anti-overdose miracle that has literally saved hundreds of thousands of Americans,” Maddow said. “There are hundreds of thousands of Americans who are alive today who would not be alive without Narcan. It is a miracle that saves people from overdose.”The MSNBC host pointed to Trump’s past praise of Narcan during his first term while noting that the MAGA leader frequently touted his administration’s efforts to expand access to the drug across the country.ALSO READ: ‘Dictatorship, not a town hall’: Families ‘distraught’ as MTG disruptors tased and jailed“And Trump, in his first term, bragged and bragged and bragged about how much his administration supported Narcan and how much they’d done to make sure everywhere in the country could get Narcan,” she told viewers Friday. “Now he’s killing it off and killing off programs to combat opioid addiction at the same time.”Maddow also ripped into Trump for eliminating the 60-year-old Head Start program, “because, God forbid, American kids can go to preschool, because that’s a terrible thing,” she said sarcastically.“Trump really is completely zeroing out, completely eliminating Head Start everywhere in the country,” Maddow said. She added that the Meals and Wheels program is also meeting the same end, “because Donald Trump is against Meals on Wheels for some reason.” “We knew it was going to be bad, and it is bad,” the host concluded.Watch the video below via MSNBC or at the link here:
