A pickup truck was found burnt out shortly after the shooting
Three people have been charged in connection with a street shooting which saw a man shot in the leg. Charles Byers, Emma Edwards and Andrew Struth appeared before Liverpool Magistrates’ Court today charged in connection with the incident in Wallasey on June 29 last year.
Merseyside Police previously said the force attended Lucerne Road after receiving reports a man had been shot in the leg just before 11.20pm. The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for the injury after two people in a car saw him in the road and called 999.
The force found a burnt out Nissan Navara pickup truck on Clayton Lane, next to Poulton Victoria Football Club, around 10 minutes later.
The ECHO previously reported that crime scene investigators carried out forensic examinations of the scene and house-to-house enquiries in the local area to determine the circumstances around the shooting.
Court documents now show that Byers, 37, Edwards, 34, both of Poulton Road in Seacombe, and Struth, 41 and of Ashville Road in Poulton, have been charged with conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life and conspiracy to commit robbery, namely to rob Negus Nelson and Stuart Cook.
The three suspects have also been charged with conspiring to pervert the course of justice, the particulars of the charge being they allegedly “did an act, namely burning clothing”, and arson, namely a Navara vehicle belonging to Peter Rowe.
Byers was also charged with one count of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent, namely he allegedly “unlawfully and maliciously caused grievous bodily harm to Stuart Cook with intent to do him grievous bodily harm”.
The charges are known as indictable only, which means due to the severity of the allegations, they can only be dealt with at the higher court. The three suspects will appear at Liverpool Crown Court at a later date.
