The musician said he was “so proud” to have played at a famous Liverpool venue
Brad Kella was flooded with support as he opened up on a “proud” day in his career. The pianist, who is from Bootle, captured the hearts of the nation when he appeared on Channel 4’s The Piano last year.
Brad, who now lives in Fazakerley, went on to win the show, impressing with both his musical talent and his honesty about his upbringing in the care system. Since the series was broadcast last summer, he has performed in Liverpool several times, including a sell-out headline show at the Philharmonic Hall last November.
Brad promoted his debut album of original music, Phoebe’s Melody, with a special live show last Friday night organised by Jacaranda Records. The pianist performed on the last piano played by John Lennon at The Beatles Story in the Albert Dock.
The musician played two tracks on the piano – Journey’s End, and Eve and Frank, which focus on different stages of his upbringing by his foster parents.
The audience loved the performance despite the odd creaks from the old instrument. Brad then switched to a more modern piano for the rest of the show.
The night was extra special as it was also Brad’s 24th birthday, which he shares with his twin brother Aron and their birth mother, who died when they were teenagers.
Brad kept hinting throughout that there would be a “special surprise”, which turned out to be a guest appearance from fellow Scouse musician Jamie Webster.
Jamie admitted that Brad’s moving performance had left him in tears at the side of the stage. The musicians then did a duet of John Lennon’s Imagine.
In an Instagram post earlier this week, Brad paid tribute to his fans as well as Jamie for their support. He said: “I cannot thank you all enough for the outpour of love I received on Friday.
“From celebrating my birthday, to working with @jamiewebstermusic, to announcing my debut album and playing John Lennon’s final piano, it truly was a day I will never forget.
“A massive thank you also to the team at @jacarandaliverpool who curated such a special event for us all. Their store is a massive part of Liverpool’s music history and I’m so proud to now be part of that.”
Many fans added their support to Brad in the comments section. One said: “What an evening, felt privileged to be there and can’t wait for the album!”
Another person said: “One of the best nights! Such a privilege to be there. You are amazing and I hope all your dreams come true! Thank you for the opportunity to see you live.”
A third fan added: “What an evening, felt privileged to be there .. and can’t wait for the album!” Another said: “Well done lad, I say well done young man, I’m extremely happy for you and your family.”
