Hopeful savers should keep an eye out when shopping as they could be missing some hidden codes that could help them save some cash.
Frequent Home Bargains customers may be familiar with ‘Star Buys’ labels scattered throughout the store. These specially marked items can vary greatly, but all have one thing in common.
Any item marked by this red sticker with a yellow star in it are a telltale sign that the store has included them in its list of top-sellers and that the shelf-space should stay exclusive to that space on the shelf. This allows staff members to ensure that the shelf space is not taken up by anything else if they run out as they will quickly soon be back in stock.
One employee on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group previously clarified this. They said: “It’s a product we will always stock. It’s mainly for staff so if we don’t have any in to leave the price there and leave the shelf space as it should come back in on the next delivery if we sell out.”
This view has also been supported by Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals, who told The Sun: “The star is a sign that they shouldn’t use the shelf space for other things, but rather replenish it with the same product or wait for a delivery the next day.”
He continued: “This can be useful if you’re unsure and it’s a sign perhaps it’s liked by lots of others and is good.”
Home Bargains has become famous across the country for some of its low-cost deals, including a chocolate cake bar, which is also included as a Star Buys, that many are comparing to the popular Dubai pistachio chocolate bar. The Home Bargains version differs as it is filled with cake, whereas the traditional Dubai chocolate bar usually includes kataifi pastry mixed with pistachio cream and tahini encased in thick milk chocolate.
One shopper said: “It’s so good for only £3.99!” Another added: “These are unreal. So tasty!” A third said: “We’ve already gone through four packs! It’s so delicious!”
Another social media user chimed in with a “game-changing” method to enjoy the treat, suggesting: “Warm them in the microwave so they go really soft. So much nicer!”.
Yet, not everyone was sold on the product. A customer expressed disappointment, stating: “I brought 5 packs I returned the other 4. Its more like truffles with a hint of pistachio but nothing like the actual Dubai fix chocolate trust me I ran to grab them and was disappointed!”.
Meanwhile, another contributor added: “It tastes okay but nothing like the real Dubai chocolate!” This trend has prompted other brands to create their own versions of the popular chocolate bar.
