The Coronation Street actor came third in Celebrity Big Brother
Colson Smith has shared the main piece of advice he gave to his Coronation Street co-star Jack P. Shepherd who recently entered the Celebrity Big Brother House. Colson came third in last year’s run of the ITV reality show, after losing out to David Potts and Strictly Come Dancing’s Nikita Kuzmin.
The second season of ITV’s reboot of the classic reality show arrived on screens on Monday with a special live launch show. Hosts Will Best and AJ Odudu returned to front the new season and welcomed a host of famous faces on to the show.
Colson Smith, who played Craig Tinker on Coronation Street, finished third on Celebrity Big Brother last year and revealed that he has given “plenty of advice” to his ‘Corrie’ co-star Jack P Shepherd, with whom he co-hosts the ‘On The Sofa’ podcast, as his stint in the house gets underway.
He said: “I’ve given him plenty of advice to be fair, the main one was to go in and enjoy yourself, because you only get to do a show like this once, so go and make the most of it. I did tell him to make sure he gets a bed, but he was the last into the bedroom so I don’t think he’s even listening.”
Colson has recently bid farewell to the Cobbles after 14 years on the soap. The 26-year-old actor has confirmed that he has filmed his final scenes as police officer Craig Tinker and reflected on bidding farewell to his “family” on the show.
Speaking on ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’, Colson said: “I’ve been gone three weeks now, I’ll always feel emotional. I will always miss the place. It was my home. It was my family. Those people, they helped me grow up.”
However, Colson did express his excitement at having the chance to explore new opportunities away from Weatherfield. He said: “It’s very different having done something for 14 years to now know that you’re not doing it anymore, and I’m excited to go out and have some fun. I’m excited, it feels like a new chapter of my life starting.”
Colson revealed last year that he was bitterly disappointed to be leaving ‘Coronation Street’ without having made it to 1,000 episodes as he had set the appearance target for himself. Appearing on the ‘On The Sofa’ podcast, he shared: “They’ve said it’s 14 (years). Less than a thousand episodes though. That was my goal in life. I think I’m 150 off.”
Colson also let slip that his on-screen farewell will not be taking place on the cobbles but inside Roy’s Rolls cafe. Commenting on his goodbye, he added: “The big speech is on the street but I don’t think I’m on the street, I think I’m in Roy’s Rolls.
In a recent episode of the podcast, Colson shared the heartfelt way he planned to say goodbye to Coronation Street. The 26-year old explained: “I’m going to have a bit of time on the street at night, when no one is around just to kind of say ‘goodbye’ in my way. I will close the chapter, have a few tears and say bye.”
He added: “I want to enjoy the day as much as I can and just let it all happen.” Colson first appeared on the street when he was just 12 years old in 2011.
During his time on the ITV soap, his storylines have included a battle with OCD and becoming a police officer. For his role of Craig, he was nominated for Best Young Actor at the 2015 Inside Soap Awards.
Colson said: “I’ve had the best and the worst days of my life on that street. I feel like I owe a lot to it and I kind of want to say goodbye and mark it.
“It’s weird how a street can hold so much to you, it’s bizarre because it is just a street but it’s like saying goodbye to your life really.” He added: “I’ll miss the people, the craic, and the feeling you get from being in that building.”
