A senior Trump administration official has sparked controversy by suggesting that American citizens should receive reparations for damages caused by illegal migration.Stephen Miller, Deputy Chief of Staff to President Donald Trump, made the remarks in response to a deportation case involving a suspected gang member.Miller argued that Americans deserve compensation after their communities were “overrun with migrants and gangs”.The contentious statement came as Miller expressed outrage over suggestions that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal migrant with alleged MS-13 gang ties, should receive reparations after being deported to El Salvador.Miller pointed to Los Angeles as an example of the impact of illegal migration, stating: “Once a paradise of safety, security, and prosperity, entire neighborhoods are occupied and controlled by foreign gangs”.The former Trump aide expressed particular concern about the American education system.”We used to have a functioning public school system in this country. Then we had open borders. Now our schools are in chaos and disarray”, he told Newsmax. He claimed schools now require “hundreds of translators” and that “nobody’s learning how to read or write”.Miller asserted that “multiple generations” of Americans had been “robbed of educational opportunities”.MORE LIKE THIS:Donald Trump’s assistant on ‘imminent’ UK trip and what it means for JD Vance’s trade demandsTrump officials face criminal contempt charges after defying judge’s orders in gang deportation caseSteve Bannon fiercely defends Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown: ‘He shut down the border!’In an emotionally charged statement, Miller questioned where “victims of fentanyl poisoning brought in by Democrats’ open border” would receive their compensation.”Hundreds of thousands of moms and dads whose kids are dead and buried in the ground. Where do they go to get their reparations from the government”, he demanded.Miller also highlighted violence against women and law enforcement, citing “all the women who have been raped, who have been beaten, who have been murdered” and “police officers who have been slain by illegal aliens”.He claimed the damage was immeasurable, stating there “aren’t enough volumes that could fit into a library to calculate the carnage”.Miller’s comments have garnered strong support from Trump loyalists, with supporters praising him for “highlighting the truth about mass migration’s impact”.Some supporters declared him a “national treasure” on social media. The controversy stems from the case of Abrego Garcia, who was reportedly deported in “error” to El Salvador but has not been permitted to return to the United States. The case has become a flashpoint in America’s immigration debate, with Democrats claiming Trump has overstepped his executive authority.Republicans, meanwhile, have criticised Democrats for defending a man whom White House officials claim is an MS-13 gang member, though he faces no gang-related charges.
