Barack and Michelle Obama’s days of having any form of influence in the Democrat Party are over, according to Maureen Callahan.The reporter was speaking about rumours the couple are to divorce, which Michelle has spoken out on.Speaking on GB News, Callahan said the duo are “over in more ways than one” as she addressed their supposed declining influence in American politics.“The Obamas seem to be over in more ways than one. In America, they have culturally become a brand unto themselves”, she said.“Politically – Barack Obama and Michelle Obama are done in the Democrat Party.“There was a poll out recently in America asking Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents who they saw as the leader of the party. If you’re not getting a divorce, why not say that rather than leave all these bread crumbs?”Questions have been raised in recent months with the former First Lady not accompanying her husband to several high-profile events.She was not present at Donald Trump’s inauguration or the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter.Without mentioning these occasions, Obama told the Work in Progress podcast hosted by actress Sophia Bush that she was “making a decision” for herself and had to put up with people “assuming that my husband and I are divorcing”.She admitted to feeling some guilt for stepping back.“That’s the thing that we as women, I think we struggling with disappointing people”, she said.”I mean, so much so that this year people couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.”This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right? But that’s what society does to us.”Michelle also said in the podcast: “I chose to do what was best for me. Not what I had to do. Not what I thought other people wanted me to do.”
