Gardeners should aim to tackle weed and moss build-up several times a year before it becomes a serious problem. In addition, it’s also better for your flowers and useful plants because they do not have to share the water with the weeds.

Once weeds start to grow they can quickly spread and removing them becomes a task. Thankfully, there are a few tried and tested methods to kill and stop them from growing back.

Weeding is best done right after rainfall or when your garden is well watered. This is because the soil is looser and easier to tackle. Below are some cheap and easy methods to rid your garden of weeds.

Hot water is a traditional home remedy and the secret to success if you want to remove weeds without breaking the bank. The bubbling hot water destroys all the cells of the weed, however, to increase the effect, you have to repeat this process several times.

The process takes time, so you will not see an immediate response, but the scalding water will work wonders in the long run. You can also create a strong weed killer with items you can find in your kitchen including vinegar.

The main active ingredient in vinegar is acetic acid. This works by drawing all of the moisture out of the weed or plant leaf. It is quick to work and it would be common to see a weed or plant brown up after only a few hours of having vinegar applied to its leaves in the full sun.

However, exercise caution as vinegar may kill any weed or plant it touches. Spray it carefully on weeds only (ensuring none hits your plants) with a spray bottle or pump sprayer when there is no wind.

Tossing a vinegar and water mixture all over your patio won’t hurt but make sure you get into those fine cracks and problem areas with a brush. Check the weeds are thoroughly soaked, scrubbing your liquids deep into the roots if needed.

Depending on the strength of your mixture, give your patio a rinse to prevent damage or staining. Your brush may become covered in dirt during the process so it’s important to keep it clean.

Patios are prone to moss which needs to be tackled separately. Simply sprinkle a little baking soda – not too much – on problem areas and revisit the patch after 24 hours. Give it a good wash and your moss problem should be gone.

If you don’t have baking soda, scolding water will do the same trick but you will need to give it a good scrub. You can have your patio, garden and moss problems dealt with within 24 hours if dealt with thoroughly.
