Celebrity Big Brother viewers were shocked to hear the reaction towards Trisha Goddard on last night’s show. The chat show host was evicted on Tuesday’s episode of the ITV reality show.

The 67-year-old has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and wanted to appear in the show to spread the message that you can “live successfully with cancer and not be so scared of dying that you become scared of living”.

Trisha was up for eviction alongside EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer and Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd, who had also been nominated for the public vote.

However, viewers following the show on social media platform X were surprised to hear some boos from the live audience as Trisha’s name was read out among the nominations.

Georgia said: “Who came to the big brother live and thought it was a good decision to boo a chronically ill woman!?

“Where has people’s decency and respect towards other people gone?” James added: “Feels very unsavoury watching people boo a woman with terminal cancer”

Sadie added: “Sorry you don’t have to agree with some of Trisha’s views or chats but why the hell is she getting that many boos?” Hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best confirmed Trisha was the second contestant to be evicted from the show.

As she exited, Trisha left to a huge ovation, which people felt was a more deserving response. Rhian said: “Phew, glad they didn’t boo her when she walked out”

Han commented: “SEE, NOW LOOK AT THOSE CHEERS, THIS IS WHAT I MEAN. PEOPLE WILL BOO WHENEVER THEY HAVE THE CHANCE, BUT IT’S CLEAR SHE’S LOVED.”

Speaking about her time on Celebrity Big Brother, Trisha explained she wanted to stay in the show as a “respite” from her condition. She said: “It’s a bit of a bubble, it’s been my risk, not that I expected it to be.

“I’m completely surprised at that, but it’s been a respite from treatment and slightly more s****y stuff, I have survived worse.” Trisha was treated for breast cancer in March 2008 after a lump was found during a routine mammogram.

She revealed the cancer had come back in an interview with Hello! magazine last year. She said: “It’s not going to go away. And with that knowledge comes grief, and fear. But I must keep enjoying what I have always enjoyed.”

She said thank you for the opportunity to appear on the show, adding: “Thank you for the opportunity to play and have fun, and I wish that everybody who has a life-limiting illness has some opportunity to just to be goofy and silly and play and be childlike and what have you, and feel a kind of mad freedom,”

The fallout from Trisha’s exit will air tonight on Celebrity Big Brother at 9pm on ITV.
