A local TV station in Southern California is now having to apologize to viewers for tweeting an uncensored version of the N-word from its official X account. On Friday, KTLA — an affiliate of the CW network — tweeted the word by itself with no context. The tweet itself was soon deleted and replaced with an apology, but not before numerous X users took screenshots of the offensive slur and piled on the network demanding an explanation. KTLA insisted that the tweet was a “technical error” that resulted from “adding language filters to our social media accounts” and added that it was “appalled” by the tweet. However, many pointed out that X’s “settings” menu — where language filters can be added — is in an entirely different place than the posting function. Griggs wrote that the term used was “highly offensive and should not have been posted on your platform.” X user @KirkWrites79 asked: “Why were they not in settings? How do you accidentally hit Post?””This is unacceptable, and probably a total lie about language filters,” tweeted liberal pundit @ArtCandee.”At least admit someone did this,” writer Dr. Allison Wiltz tweeted. “This isn’t a technical error, it’s racism.”KTLA has not yet elaborated on the incident, and has not announced any personnel changes in response to the tweet.
