Irish girl group B*Witched are one of the most iconic bands of the 90s
For those who rocked Sony Walkmans and double denim, B*Witched remain an iconic symbol of the ’90s, with their distinct fashions and catchy tunes. Unlike some other groups of the decade, this Irish girl band has not only survived but thrived, dropping new tracks just a few months ago.
The 90s was notorious for its iconic pop band break-ups, from Take That to The Verve, although some later reformed. B*Witched recently celebrated their 25th year in the industry with fresh sounds.
Casting minds back around three decades, when the group’s lively hits like C’est la Vie soared to chart-topping success, they seemed unstoppable, claiming the number one spot with their first four singles. But by 2002, Lindsay Armaou, alongside twins Edele and Keavy Lynch and Sinéad O’Carroll, saw the curtain fall on their musical journey.
A silent decade passed before ITV’s The Big Reunion revived the beloved quartet in 2012. Lindsey opened up about her decision to return in a candid chat with The Express.
She said: “So it was a bit of a fork in the road. And it was like, ‘Do I say no and continue down this path that I’m going on, or do I dive back in and see where that goes?’ sort of thing.
“So it was a weird, weird moment actually because it was quite a big decision. But ultimately, you know, we decided to get back together as the group, and we’re longer together this time than we were the first time, which is bizarre, which is mad.”
Last year saw B*Witched drop their EP Ripped Jeans – a clear homage to their iconic denim flair. They’ve managed to mix signature catchy melodies with a mellowed, modern vibe with the songs, including So Into You.
Delving into their latest work, the band said: “So Into You sets the supercharged dance-pop addictiveness to the max as B*Witched launch a powerful contemporary sound that’s so fresh and full of the vibrancy that they’re renowned for. It may well be a quarter of a century since B*Witched first shot to superstardom, but So Into You shows that they have lost none of their youthful zest from the first time around.”
It’s unclear if more music is in the pipeline, yet the release witnessed warm responses from fans. B*Witched are making waves once again, proving they’re here to stay.
