MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow laid into the “extraordinary response” the Trump administration was forced to deploy after it was discovered that the massive dump of documents related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy contained the Social Security numbers of hundreds of congressional staffers.“Now, after that ready, fire, aim routine, they’re now trying to fix it,” Maddow said Thursday. The MSNBC host, who appeared clearly exasperated from the latest flub to come out of President Donald Trump’s administration, told viewers during her show’s opening monologue that because of the mistake, the Social Security Administration has been directed to issue new Social Security numbers to the affected people. She noted that the list of the Washington insiders affected includes “a former assistant secretary of state, a former U.S. ambassador, researchers in the intelligence world, state department workers, and prominent lawyers.”“Just because they were on the assassinations committee doesn’t mean they’re not still alive and kicking,” Maddow said Thursday. “And now Donald Trump has ordered all of them to be very thoroughly doxxed, which, among other things, appears to be quite illegal.”But the fix for the colossal error – which, in addition to issuing new Social Security numbers also includes free credit monitoring – will likely come at a cost to those whose private information was exposed, Maddow pointed out.ALSO READ: ‘I miss lynch mobs’: The secretary of retribution’s followers are getting impatient“So yeah, good luck! Ambassadors and assistant secretaries of state and high-end Washington lawyers, including some who worked for Trump,” Maddow said. “Good luck in your 70s and 80s now working with the hugely diminished and unbelievably chaotic Social Security Administration to restart – in your 70s and 80s – everything in your official and financial life with your brand new Social Security number that Donald Trump is having to issue you today as an old person, as if you were a brand new baby.”Maddow added that the scenario is only possible because “Who’s going to tell him no? Who’s going to tell him that’s not a good idea?” Which, she noted, “is the most amazing part of all of this.””Because he’s the ‘king!'” Maddow said sarcastically. “And what? You’re going to tell him that the genius brain fart he had about Kennedy while he was walking around the Kennedy Center is somehow not the world’s greatest and well thought out idea?” Maddow concluded: “It’s not how the government works in an autocratic system.”Watch the clip below or at this link:
