Chris Meagher, former assistant to the secretary of defense for public affairs and current Democratic political advisor, on Sunday explained the real reason Republicans are defending reliably red districts, telling his conservative CNN colleagues “people are upset” with President Donald Trump’s policies.Meagher and a CNN panel were discussing Tuesday’s upcoming special election in Florida, where CNN reports Republicans are “alarmed” by tight races in two Florida districts Trump carried “by more than 30 points in November.”“The Republican Party has to sort of come to grips with the new reality, which is we’ve traded a lot of the highest propensity voters to the Democrats, but a lot of new, lower propensity voters have come in to the Republican Party,” CNN’s Scott Jennings said Sunday.READ MORE: ‘Not going in the right location’: Trump ‘very angry’ as Putin vows to ‘finish off’ Ukrainian troopsJennings said the GOP’s “lower propensity voters just simply don’t have a history of turning out as much,” arguing Republicans “will win in Florida” but must “condition these new people in the Republican Party” to turn out to vote in non-presidential elections.“It may take some time to condition these new folks to become regular voters,” Jennings saidConservative Shermichael Singleton agreed Republicans will “win Florida,” but added he’s “bothered” that “the candidate may underperform Trump.”“This is a 30-plus R-district,” Shermichael said. “This should be easily winnable.”READ MORE: Mussolini talk’: Retired ARMY general slams Trump’s claim US will ‘get Greenland — 100 percent’Meagher then offered his own analysis of the close Florida races, telling his GOP colleagues voters are “very angry” with the direction of the country after Trump’s win in November.“Here’s the thing, you’re seeing voters around the country very angry right now,” Meagher said. “They’re showing up to town halls angry, and you’re starting to see it electorally. 13 out of the 14 special elections that we’ve had since November, Democrats have over-performed Donald Trump in November. Why is that? Republicans got to be asking that question.”“Why are we talking about a plus-30 Trump district in Florida?” He continued. “It’s because they’re trying to cut Medicaid to provide a tax cut to to billionaires like Elon Musk. It’s because they’re slowing down the benefits that veterans have received at the [Veterans Affairs]. They’re slowing down the benefits that seniors are entitled to through Social Security. People are upset about that, and they’re starting to make their voice heard at the ballot box.”Watch the video below or at this link.
