The community said they will be “celebrating their identity” come the weekend
Liverpool is not short of events to celebrate Trans Day of Visibility (TDoV) this year. Held annually on March 31, the day not only celebrates trans and non-binary people but raises awareness of the discrimination they face worldwide.
In usual fashion, this year will see members of the community come together to share their stories and ultimately call for a more accessible and inclusive world. Over the weekend, the Museum of Liverpool will be taken over by a series of talks, performances, workshops and a makers’ market – all of which aim to spread trans joy.
Kate Sanders, chair of Spirit Level Trans Support Group, said: “Trans Day of Visibility means that for one or two days a year, we become a real community, celebrate our identity, and build new bonds of friendship and understanding.”
Attendees can expect to hear from Dr. Adrien Gramps, Dr. Adrian Harrop, and Scarlett Rose. Sophie Green will also hold a number of workshops on Saturday, March 29.
Scarlett Rose, Out of the Shadows Project Officer, added: “TDOV is important to me because, as an out and proud trans woman, I feel it is important to show the joyful and human side of the Trans community.
“We are so often vilified in the media that people forget we are less than 1% of the population and we don’t want to hurt anyone. All we want to do is be happy, joyful, and loved and to be allowed to live as ourselves authentically without hate or bigotry.”

“Today it is as important as ever to empower Trans and Non-Binary communities to tell their stories authentically and to support those voices to build a better, kinder, more inclusive world for Trans and Non-Binary people. True allyship is an important and active process and one that National Museums Liverpool is proud to be a part of.
