“The turnout was unbelievable, my emotions are all over the place”
Emotional moment Sienna Rose is welcomed home
Sienna-Rose’s mum Natasha Sargeant said “thank you all so much” as she broke down in tears outside Alder Hey Children’s Hospital following a harrowing week-long ordeal.
The mum arrived at the hospital with her 19-month-old daughter this evening, March 15, one week after Sienna suffered a brain haemorrhage while on holiday in Cancun, Mexico.
Family, friends, and the generous people of Merseyside and beyond raised over £150,000 to repatriate the youngster on a medical flight, which landed in Liverpool just after 5.30pm.
Around 60 people gathered outside Alder Hey with balloons and “welcome home” signs. Cheers rose up as Sienna’s ambulance arrived at around 6.30pm, and Natasha emerged from the vehicle and tearfully reunited with her family and partner Liam.
After thanking people at the scene, she later posted on Facebook: “Wow what can I say, the turnout was unbelievable. My emotions are all over the place, I feel sick with exhaustion but we all did it!
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Sienna is getting fully checked over now and is about to have another CT scan. I need some time to process the last 10 days before I get round to opening my messages, again thank you.”
On the ECHO’s Facebook page, more well-wishers offered their support. Jo Dillon said: “Of course the people of this city were going to get her home.
“She’s one of ours. Hope she starts to improve better now in Alder Hey, where her family can all come to help and support her.”
Ellen Marie Dogus said: “Welcome home princess, Liverpool people you should all be proud of yourself, this wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for your generosity, just like you all saved Zoe’s place.”
Paula Gilligan said: “So glad you are home beautiful little girl. Your mum and dad can now watch their little girl get stronger and better. You are in the best hands – all the doctors at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital will do everything in their power to make you better, sending so much love to you and your family.”
Andrea Lynne said: “Bravo to all of Liverpool and the wider communities who brought this little girl home to the best place to treat and help her heal. Get well soon baby Sienna Rose. Such emotional scenes watching your homecoming – my thoughts, love and prayers with you, your family and friends.”
Lynsey Molyneux said: “Must be such a relief to be back on home ground. I’m sure she will receive the best care now at Alder Hey. Everybody has her and yourselves in their thoughts. Wishing her a speedy recovery.”
