The man suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital
A man was assaulted near a Liverpool city centre pub in the early hours. Merseyside Police were called to Seel Street in Liverpool city centre at around 4.15am on Monday, March 31.
It followed a report of a man in his 20s having been assaulted near St Peter’s Tavern, formerly Alma de Cuba. The man suffered head injuries and has been taken to hospital by ambulance for assessment, police said.
A 38-year-old man, from Everton, was arrested nearby to the scene on suspicion of section 20 assault. He has been taken to a police station for questioning. Officers remain in the area to carry out enquiries.
Detectives said despite an arrest, they still want to speak to witnesses, including taxi and other driver who may have been passing at the time of the incident. Detective Inspector Natalie Charlesworth said: “Although a man has been arrested following swift CCTV enquiries at the scene, we are still keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and saw the incident.
“This includes driver of taxis or other vehicles which may have been passing by and captured something on dashcam or other devices. All information provided will be assessed and could be vital in our investigation so please come forward and tell us what you know.
“Violence in our communities will never be tolerated and we are determined to take positive action to put such offenders before the courts, so that people can continue to safely enjoy visiting the city centre and all parts of Merseyside.”
