Protection official trailer for brand new ITV thriller
Viewers of the most recent episode of Protection have branded the police drama “unbelievable” while voicing their dissatisfaction over its slow tempo.
Starring Siobhan Finneran as DI Liz Nyles, the ITV drama has had viewers hooked with a look inside witness protection from Liz’s point of view. The frustration was palpable in episode four as Liz grappled with limited success to dig up evidence, only to be thwarted and draw unwelcome scrutiny from DCI Wheatley.
However, as the narrative slowly intensified, it didn’t quite hit the mark for all watchers. Fans took to social media platforms to express their frustrations with the fourth chapter of the Liverpool-filmed drama, from getting lost in the plot to irritation over the show’s rhythm.

One critic remarked: “Protection on ITV has so many amateur moments in it. Becoming more unbelievable with every episode. Siobhan Finneran is usually a great actress, but this has been more dinner lady vibes than a police protection officer,” reports the Mirror.
Another offered their take: “This just doesn’t seem as good as I had hoped it would be. Partly script and also cos Liz isn’t a victim – she comes across as dishonest and someone prone to making very bad decisions.”
A third viewer stated: “This is a mish-mash of everything and hard to keep up! #Protection amazing timing that the villains keep popping up.”
A fourth viewer expressed their impatience, stating: “Jesus. It’s dragging its feet this #Protection thing on ITV. I love Siobhan Finneran but I think she’s been miscast in on this one. Nothing seems to happen. Disappointed is not the word.”
A different audience member shared their diminishing interest by commenting: “I’m starting to not really be bothered about who’s doing what…” While someone else was eager for a swifter narrative, saying: “Let’s hope this one isn’t too slow.”
Despite some displeasure found among online reactions, there were those who enjoyed diving into Protection. One fan praised the show: “Watching episode 4 of the brilliant #protection!”.
Meanwhile, another enthusiast revealed their commitment to the series by disclosing they had watched it all on ITVX, remarking: “I binged watched the series the other night (Insomnia again). Excellent!!”
Protection is available to watch on ITVX.
