Drama continued on the ITV soap
Coronation Street viewers were heartbroken after distressing scenes between fan favourite couple Carla Connor (Alison King) and Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers). They were in the hospital with Betsy (Sydney Martin), following last night’s tragic scenes which saw the couple find themselves in a hostage situation with Carla’s brother Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis).
Rob got himself involved in a kidney transplant scandal with his sister, as a way to escape from prison. Rob fled from Weatherfield after a dramatic showdown at the hospital. But he made his return and was thrust straight back into the action after he convinced Tracy McDonald to let him stay.
During Tuesday’s (March 25) episode, He threatened Tracy with a gun, before she called Carla. Her girlfriend D.S Lisa Swain then came to the rescue at number one. Carla and Lisa were trapped on the sofa, with Rob’s behaviour getting out of control.
He pointed a gun at the couple, before Lisa took over and a gunshot could be heard. The police burst into the house, and P.C Kit Green arrested Rob for false imprisonment and possession of a firearm. Viewers were glad to see that neither Lisa or Carla were hurt in the accident.
But in a heartbreaking turn of events, it was Lisa’s daughter Betsy Swain who caught the tragic result of Rob’s destructive actions. Betsy received a bullet wound to the shoulder, and her mum found her lied on the floor in the ginnel.
During Wednesday’s broadcast of the ITV soap, Lisa was struggling to deal with the consequences of her actions. Carla asked: “Are you okay?”, as Lisa told her: “No”, later adding: “I shot my own daughter.”
It was later revealed that Betsy’s arm may never recover from the devastating blow to her shoulder. Lisa couldn’t deal with the guilt, so she went to see Rob who was also recovering in a hospital bed.
She said he would be going back to prison, before telling him: “Thank you for the kidney.” But Rob warned Lisa that her relationship with Carla will cause nothing but trouble, and drama seems to follow Carla wherever she goes.
At the end of the episode, Carla and Lisa, known by fans as “Swarla” decided to take a break from their relationship. Lisa explained she needed to put her daughter first, and was worried for their safety with Rob and Carla still around.
One viewer said they were “crying”, as another said: “Oh dear.” More added to the conversation on X: “I’m sending you my therapy bill for this scene specifically What an incredible performance here”, “Marc, Alison, Vicky and Kate can all take a bow because they’ve ALL been INCREDIBLE!”
Another wrote: “My gosh Vicky Myers, what a performance. She is the best thing to happen to Corrie in a long while. Give her and Ali all the awards. Breaking my heart!”
The fictional detective has become one of Weatherfield’s most popular characters since she arrived on the show. Earlier this month, Vicky took to social media to reflect on her time on the Cobbles as it has been a year since she was confirmed as a series regular. She was in disbelief at how quickly time had passed as she looked back on the past twelve months.
She said: “Wow, a year…and what a year it’s been. My goodness, how time flies when you’re having fun. Thank you for all the lovely messages- you’re the best”
Fans of the soap took to the comments as they hoped Vicky’s stint on the Cobbles is going to continue for the foreseeable as her onscreen counterpart goes from the strength to strength in Weatherfield.
Kim said: “Hopefully many more to come!” Jo added: “You’ve smashed it feels like you have always been part of the street” Lylah posted: “I hope you know you can never leave us now.”
Harriet posted: “What a year it’s been not only for you but for US! The joy you’ve brought to the Swarla community is something else.” Vicky said: “You are just incredible Vicky! We are so so proud of you & cannot wait to see how even more amazing you can be!”
