Coronation Street viewers joked that the ITV soap should be “renamed.” Drama continued on the Cobbles, following intense episodes which saw Betsy Swain hospitalised after being accidentally shot by her own mum. Tragic scenes saw fan favourite couple Carla Connor and Lisa Swain find themselves in a hostage situation with Carla’s brother Rob Donovan.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, it was Lisa’s daughter Betsy Swain who caught the tragic result of Rob’s destructive actions. Betsy received a bullet wound to the shoulder, and has been recovering in hospital.
But Betsy is just one of the many residents who have spent time in hospital in recent weeks. Coronation Street viewers all said the same thing about the soap, as other characters have had their fair share of catastrophes.
The majority of scenes have ended up with a number of residents fighting for their lives in a private room at Weatherfield General hospital. One fan said: “There are more scenes in the hospital than in the actual street these days….“
More viewers added to the conversation on X: “When is Corrie going to be renamed Weatherfield General?”, “We have more scenes in the hospital than actual #coronationstreet these days. What is going on?” and “They really can’t go an episode without the hospital set.”
Earlier this month, fans witnessed Rob and Carla undergo a kidney transplant. Elsewhere, David Platt and Daisy found themselves victim to a hit and run accident which left them in the infirmary.
Also, a pregnant Dee-Dee has been in and out of Weatherfield General for her clinical check-ups. But during Friday’s (March 28) episode of the ITV soap, Bertie Osbourne also fell victim as he secured a spot in the hospital.
While Jenny Bradley was taking care of him, the child wandered off when she wasn’t paying attention. Bertie found himself in Sally and Tim’s outdoor hot tub, before Daisy took him to be checked over.
She was furious that Jenny had been so careless over Daniel’s child. As the broadcast continued, Daisy and Jenny’s feud grew more intense as the pair were arguing over the £60,000 sum they owe to Carla.
Despite the arguments, one fan admitted: “Daisy leaving Daniel and Bertie will be heartbreaking.” Another agreed: “Oh I’ve actually grown to love the little family of Daisy, Daniel and Bertie.”
Earlier this year, Charlotte Jordan revealed she will be departing her role as Daisy Midgeley in Coronation Street. Charlotte has become one of the most popular stars on the show since she arrived on screens in 2020. Daisy soon got a job behind the bar at the Rovers Return and she has been involved in some of the show’s most important storylines.
A spokesperson for ITV told the ECHO in a statement last month: “The producers fully understand Charlotte’s desire to explore other projects, she is a talented ambitious actress”.
The spokesperson added that Charlotte gave the show “plenty of time for the producer and writing team to devise a dramatic exit storyline which has already started to play out screen. She will be on screen until early summer.”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV1 and ITVX.
