The monks travelled from Bhaktivedanta Manor, a Hare Krishna temple donated by the late Beatle George Harrison
Hare Krishna monks gathered at the Adelphi Hotel tonight for a peaceful evening of meditation and spiritual repose. The people of Liverpool were invited to take part in Kirtan, a call-and-response form of musical meditation from ancient India.
Through mantras, music and dance, the unique practice aims to uplift the heart and mind, allowing people to connect with their spiritual sides.
The monks travelled from Bhaktivedanta Manor, a Hare Krishna temple near Watford. The 17-acre property was donated to the monks in 1973 by Beatles member George Harrison, allowing the Hare Krishna movement to flourish and further expand its following in Britain.
Adam Buday, a Hare Krishna monk whose spiritual name is Antaranga, said: “I’ve been coming to Liverpool for about 10 years and last summer we met a lady who made an interesting comment. She said George Harrison gave you that place in Watford, what did you do for Liverpool? And I felt struck because it was true.
“We felt that we should invest some time to bring some of that gratitude we feel towards George Harrison and Liverpool back here and share the wonderful gifts that our spiritual tradition has to offer.”
