President Donald Trump has pardoned the three co-founders of cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX, who previously pled guilty to federal charges related to money laundering and regulatory violations.
What Happened: CNBC reported on Friday that Arthur Hayes, Benjamin Delo and Samuel Reed received presidential pardons on Thursday.
The three executives had faced serious legal consequences after prosecutors accused them of operating BitMEX as a “money laundering platform” and creating a “sham” withdrawal from the U.S. market.
Reed had pled guilty to violating the Bank Secrecy Act in 2022 and agreed to pay a $10 million fine.
