Temperatures in northern Taiwan, Taichung, and Yilan and Hualien counties could fall to 10°C or lower in the early mornings until Wednesday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) forecast yesterday.
The CWA issued warnings for low temperatures and strong winds because of cold air currents from the north and strengthening northeasterly winds.
Its orange “very cold” advisory for northern Taiwan, Yilan County and Taichung indicated that temperatures could remain at about 10°C or lower through today in those areas.
A Central Weather Administration chart shows the weather forecast for this week. The black line indicates northern Taiwan and Yilan County, the yellow line indicates central Taiwan, the brown line indicates southern Taiwan, and the blue represents eastern Taiwan.

It also issued a yellow “cold” weather advisory for Hualien and Kinmen counties, indicating that there is a chance of temperatures dropping below 10°C for brief periods from last night to today in those areas.
Daytime highs in Taipei and Taichung today would hit 13°C and 14°C, respectively, while nighttime lows are expected to be about 10°C, or as low as 7°C in Yilan and Miaoli counties, the administration said.
The cold temperatures are forecast to remain until Wednesday.
Sporadic showers are expected in the areas covered by the cold surge advisory and in mountainous areas, with chances of heavy rainfall in Keelung, coastal areas in New Taipei City, and mountainous regions in northern Taiwan, it added.
