Kyoto municipal authorities plan to raise the lodging tax for hotels and other accommodation to a maximum 10,000 yen ($63) per person per night from the current 1,000 yen limit, as the city is struggling with overtourism, a source familiar with the matter said Wednesday.
The new amount will be the highest among Japanese municipalities that adopt fixed fee systems, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
